Here are a few of the most notable risk factors for oral cancer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tobacco: <\/strong>If you use cigarettes or similar tobacco-based products, you\u2019ll be much more likely to develop cancer in your mouth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Alcohol:<\/strong> Research shows that oral cancer is more likely to affect people who drink heavily.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Age:<\/strong> According to the American Cancer Society, more than half of all oral cancer patients are at least 65 years old.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gender:<\/strong> Oral cancer occurs more often in men than it does in women.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>HPV:<\/strong> If you have tested positive for HPV (human papillomavirus), then you may be more likely to experience cancer in your tonsils or at the base of your tongue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Will You Know If You Have Oral Cancer?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Knowing the symptoms of oral cancer can significantly increase your chances of successfully treating it. Take note if you notice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any persistent oral sores or irritations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Red or white patches on the tongue or gums.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any unusual lumps or rough spots.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A change in your bite (meaning the way the upper and lower teeth fit together).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A constant feeling like something is caught in your throat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If any of these symptoms don\u2019t go away after two weeks, then you may have oral cancer and should seek a diagnosis as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s the Most Reliable Way to Identify Oral Cancer Early?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Oftentimes, oral cancer symptoms aren\u2019t noticeable until the later stages of the disease, at which point it\u2019s typically more difficult to treat it.
